Preloved Bridal FAQ's

Please contact me if you have additional questions

  • When should I start looking at dresses?
There is no rule and it really depends on how long you have until your wedding, but we find most Brides look about eighteen months to a year in advance of their wedding date. If you want to order one of our Brand New dresses, please note that the average delivery time is 4 months. Don’t forget to factor in roughly 3 months for alterations. If you are already on a time timescale, please do not worry, we have around 200 dresses available to purchase and take away the same day.
  • Do I need to book an appointment?
Yes, we are currently operating by appointment. You will have exclusive use of the boutique and our undivided attention. We really don’t want people walking in on your experience.
  • How Long is an appointment? And how much does it cost?
Regular appointments (Tuesdays to Saturdays 10-5pm) are 90 minutes long. Cost Free Accessories appointments (Tuesdays to Saturdays 10-5pm) are 45 minutes long. Cost Free VIP appointments (Thursday evenings 6pm) are 120 minutes long Cost £60 Sunday appointments are 120 minutes long Cost £25 There is no fee to book a regular appointment, however we charge £60 (non-refundable) for a VIP appointment which includes non-alcoholic refreshments for the Bride plus 4 guest. The VIP appointments are also longer than the regular appointments and are carried out on Thursday evenings. We can offer Sunday appointments by exception at a charge of £25 (non-refundable). Sunday appointments are as per regular appointments but with a slightly longer duration of 2 hours. Whether you have bought your dress from us or from another shop, you are welcome to come along to view our extensive range of accessories. If you have your dress, bring it along and have a dressing up session whilst choosing your perfect accessories to complete your look for your big day. Contact us to book in.
  • What happens during the appointment?
If you have sent a viewing request through with a selection of your favourite dresses, we will have them out ready for you to try on. Don’t worry if you prefer to start with a blank sheet once you are here. At the start of your appointment, we will have a little chat about where and when your wedding is, and what your likes and dislikes are. With our wide range of knowledge of our gowns we may suggest a few ‘wild cards’ for you to try on. We love the wild card which quite often wins the day! It is important at first to be relaxed and enjoy your experience so be open minded. Often you will end up with the opposite of what you had in your head to begin with. If you have no idea where to begin, don’t worry just leave it all to us and soon you will be on your way.
  • Do I need to bring or wear anything specific for the appointment?
We recommend that you wear comfortable underwear, preferably a strapless bra if possible in nude or white so that it doesn’t affect the look of the gowns when trying them on. Some brides like to wear all in one body shapers too. If you don’t have these or forget, then please don’t worry, just your self is perfect. You may want to bring shoes to see how you stand in heels, but most of the dresses are in 6ft lengths so even with high heels the dress will be too long. We have a podium for you to stand on to show you how the dress will hang once it has been taken up in length. Most ladies do not bother with shoes at the appointment.
  • Can I wear make up when trying gowns on?
We understand that as a Bride you wish to look your best and get an idea of how things will be on the day so yes, please don’t worry about having light make up on. You will be stepping into dresses rather that putting them over your head to help keep the dresses pristine. Fake tan is best avoided especially if applied that day or is a ‘wash off’ so that our dresses stay fresh. Remember that most of the dresses in the shop are sold ‘off the peg’ which means it is extra important to keep the dresses in great condition.
  • How many people can I bring to the appointment?
We have comfortable seating for the bride plus 3 guests, or 4 guest at a push. Remember that too many opinions may give you a problem deciding on your perfect dress. Focus on quality not quantity. Quite often we find the best option is to bring one or two guests. Wifi is available to include others virtually should you wish to.
  • Are children allowed?
This is a tricky question. As much as you may wish to include small children, they will often become bored and will potentially add stress to your appointment. We recommend that children under the age of 8 to be left with friends/family. Any children over the age of 8 that come along will need to be counted in the overall guest count due to seating restrictions. Also, it is recommended that you have an adult supervising the children whilst you are trying dresses on. I hope you understand
  • Does my dress come packaged?
We provide a complimentary breathable garment bag for all of our gowns. This is suitable to store your dress in until alterations begin. Are alterations included in the cost? No, alteration costs are separate and paid directly to the seamstress.
  • When should I book alterations?
Once you have bought your dress, we can book an appointment for you to see our recommended seamstress which will be roughly 3 months before your wedding as you may require 2-3 fittings before your final collection. The fittings generally take place here at the boutique where you will have the opportunity to try on some accessories with your dress if you still need to complete your look.
  • Can I think about it before saying ‘Yes to the Dress?
Of course! We will never push a bride into committing to a dress when she is not ready to do so. The only important thing to remember is that because there’s generally only one of each dress in the boutique, if you don’t snap it up then someone else might… so don’t take too long to decide! I always tell people to listen to their gut instincts as they are there for a reason.
  • What if the wedding dress I love isn’t the right size?
If a dress is too big, a seamstress can take a dress in by 2 sizes so it can still fit you like a glove. If you love a dress that is a little too small, there are sometimes several ways around this which we can explain at your appointment.
  • How can I make payment?
If you find ‘the one’ from our off-the-rail collection, payment is taken in full and you take your dress home the same day. If you choose one of our ‘new to order’ dresses, you pay 50% at the point of ordering the dress, and the balance 4 months later upon collection. Payment methods acceptable: bank transfer, cash or debit/credit card (not AMEX)
